Blind Expectations

This Piece is a self portrait of the artist as a child. The blindfold signifies the heavy expectations place on young children to grow up and achieve the goals their parents have created for them. The young girl is smiling and blissfully unaware of who she is expected to become.

These expectations often can result in mental disorders later on in life when these children develop goals of their own; ones that do not align with that which was expected of them.

The artist wants to promote individuality among youth by creating a sense of discomfort in these expectations, and suggesting that instead we as a society teach children the differences between right and wrong and allow them to develop into whoever they choose to be.
